We work diligently to ensure our animals exhibit the typical friendly and outgoing temperaments they should have. Work must be put forth after leaving our home to keep your puppy going in the right direction. We ask each new home to attend Puppy Kindergarten. The use of a crate when housetraining is encouraged. A type of physical fencing to keep your dog safely on your property is a must. Invisible fencing is not an option as the dog is not protected from anything that might come into its yard. There are no exceptions to these requirements.
All breeding combinations are made with the breed's purpose in mind, "primarily a hunting dog."
The breed standard, temperament, instinct, and health are the focus for us when producing a litter. All of our dogs and stud dogs used are fully health tested, including OFA hips, elbows, heart, eyes, and have been DNA tested for all available genetic diseases. Ultimately, we keep our pick puppy to further our breeding program and the rest of the litter is placed on a individual home basis. Volhard Puppy Aptitude Testing is arranged to be done when the litter is about 7 weeks of age.
